Giants-Red Sox clashes are rarer than you would guess

The longtime franchises will meet for just the sixth series beginning Tuesday

Red Sox and Giants met for the first time in 1912 World Series

The Giants and Red Sox begin a two-game series Tuesday in Boston.

It will be just the sixth series between the franchises, whose roots reach down deeply in baseball history, since interleague play began in 1997, and the second at Fenway Park. In 1912, the Red Sox defeated the New York Giants in the World Series 4-3 (there was also 6-6, 11-inning tie as part of the series).
