SEATTLE - Tuesday night's lineup had a noticeable omission. Four of the five Giants outfielders were playing, including Hunter Pence as the designated hitter, and Gorkys Hernandez was not.

Hernandez has slowed at the plate, batting .217 in July, so Austin Slater started in left field against left-hander Roenis Elias, Seattle's emergency starter.

Slater got three hits in Oakland on Sunday, two against left-hander Sean Manaea, and Bochy said he wants to see more Slater, particularly against lefties, but also sometimes against righties.
