Giants notes: Trevor Brown plays sick, Matt Cain has a specific motivation as he begins relief role, etc.

CHICAGO – A heavy-lidded Trevor Brown mumbled that he was feeling better Friday morning than he did a day earlier.

That’s not much of a statement, since one of Brown’s tonsils was the size of a Titleist on Thursday.

Due to a series of circumstances, some of them unavoidable, and a dash of downright negligence, the Giants are forcing a very sick rookie to catch Albert Suarez against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday.

Bruce Bochy wanted to avoid catching Buster Posey in a day game after a night game. Bochy also wanted Posey’s bat at first base so he could bench epically slumping first baseman Brandon Belt against left-hander Jon Lester.
