Giants move quickly in free agency, sign All-Star pitcher Carlos Rodon

The San Francisco Giants signed All-Star lefty Carlos Rodón to a two-year, $44 million deal in what should hopefully be the first major domino to fall in MLB free agency. The deal, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN, includes an opt-out after the first season.

Rodón made the first All-Star Game of his career last season for the Chicago White Sox after, unsurprisingly, having the best season of his career in 2021. The then-28-year-old went 13-5 with an ERA of 2.37, a WHIP of 0.957 and 185 strikeouts over 132.2 innings pitched. The performance was good enough to not only earn an invite to the Midsummer Classic, but also got him fifth in AL Cy Young voting.
