Giants’ MLB-worst offense shouldn’t cost hitting coach Hensley Meulens his job, players say

DENVER – The Giants have scored the fewest runs in the major leagues. They cannot easily change out the core personnel in their lineup.

And if you listen to them, firing hitting coach Hensley “Bam Bam” Meulens wouldn’t be the right move, either.

“Nobody here is blaming Bam Bam for anything,” Buster Posey said. “It’s on us to go out and perform. We’ve all been doing this for awhile and there has to be accountability on our part. I think we understand that, and that’s why nobody is blaming Bam Bam.”

A canvas of the clubhouse found unanimous and enthusiastic support of Meulens, who has been the club’s hitting coach since 2010, when he took over for Carney Lansford and inherited a team that ranked last in the major leagues in walks and on-base percentage while averaging the fewest pitches seen per plate appearance.
