Giants lose wild extra inning game to A’s after unusual comeback

OAKLAND–With two outs in the top of the ninth, Giants second baseman Alen Hanson swung and missed at strike three.

Under ordinary circumstances, the game should have been over.

While what happened on the diamond didn’t go the Giants way for the first eight innings Saturday, what happened just off of it in the ninth sparked an unlikely, unusual comeback.

Though that comeback helped the Giants extend the game, A’s catcher Jonathan Lucroy crushed an opposite field single in the 11th to down San Francisco 4-3 and end one of the most memorable games of the year.
