Long before their ugly 9-7, 11-inning loss to the Diamondbacks finally ended close to midnight Monday, the Giants seemed on target for a routine win.
The .380-hitting Angel Pagan had three more hits. Joe Panik homered over the right-field wall. And Jake Peavy carried a 6-2 lead into the sixth inning.
But the Giants’ bullpen prolonged the opener of a 10-game homestand a couple of times. Hunter Strickland lost a two-run lead in the eighth, and closer Santiago Casilla blew a one-run lead in the ninth.
It got even worse in the 11th when Chris Heston gave up two runs, courtesy of Jean Segura’s infield single and Jake Lamb’s double, with plenty of sloppiness weaved in along the way.
