CHICAGO — Johnny Cueto wanted to see the Cubs in the postseason. If it happened, Cueto said, everyone would learn who had the “coconuts.”
Apparently, coconuts grow wild in the playoffs. Cueto has a pair. So does Jon Lester, a presumptive top-three finisher in Cy Young voting.
In yet another great pitching duel, Lester and Cueto shepherded a scoreless game into the eighth inning of Friday night’s Division Series opener at Wrigley Field. Lester won the duel, and the Cubs won 1-0 on Javier Baez’s one-out homer off Cueto in the eighth.
