Giants, Gabe Kapler hire two new coaches including one from within the organization

The San Francisco Giants officially added two coaches to new manager Gabe Kapler’s first staff on Tuesday.

Antoan Richardson, a former field coordinator in the Giants’ farm system, will join the big league club as the first base, outfield and baserunning coach while Nick Ortiz, a former manager in the Yankees’ farm system, is the team’s new quality assurance coach.

Richardson, 36, made his major league coaching debut last season on June 14 when former Giants first base coach José Alguacil took a brief vacation to attend his son’s graduation.

The former Braves and Yankees outfielder was originally selected out of Vanderbilt in the 35th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Giants and is the answer to a trivia question involving soon-to-be Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter.
