His coaching staff gathered in his office, sharing a toast of top shelf Kentucky bourbon as the manager dried off from his beer bath.
Bochy’s starter, the ace who has won more games for him than any other pitcher in his career, stood in front of his locker to reflect on a friendship rather than his performance.
“He’s a great manager,” Madison Bumgarner said. “But he’s one of my best friends in the game. I love him to death.
