Giants’ decision to increase minor league pay could lead to bigger change in the future

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Making ends meet in minor league baseball is a significant financial struggle for many prospects, but the San Francisco Giants are attempting to ease the burden this year.

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi confirmed the organization has elected to give minor leaguers at nearly every level of the farm system pay increases for the 2020 season. The San Francisco Chronicle first reported salaries at Triple-A will go up from $502 a week to $750 while players will also receive a $500 per month housing allowance.
