On the day the Giants needed to win Game 3 of their Division Series against the Cubs, tongues were still wagging about manager Bruce Bochy’s decision to start Jeff Samardzija in Game 2, and not Matt Moore, who was ticketed for Game 4.
Bochy on Monday ridiculed the notion that he started Samardzija out of “that loyalty thing I’m hearing” and said a lot of discussions with pitching coach Dave Righetti went into the decision to start Samardzija, who lasted two innings and allowed four runs.
