PITTSBURGH – The Giants used the safest and least disruptive route to replace third baseman Matt Duffy on the roster, recalling outfielder Mac Williamson from Triple-A Sacramento.
Williamson brings a right-handed bat, but obviously, cannot play third base. The Giants have Connor Gillaspie in Tuesday’s lineup at PNC Park, with switch hitter Ramiro Peña also expected to see time at the position while Duffy recovers from a left Achilles strain.

As anticipated, the Giants did not make a bolder move to purchase the contract of Christian Arroyo, their best hitting prospect, who has played some third base this season and is not far away in Hartford.
