PHOENIX - Bruce Bochy has stuck by Santiago Casilla as much as any manager would, maybe to a fault. With the Giants struggling to hold on to a playoff spot, just 23 games remaining and Casilla clearly unable to shut down games in the ninth inning consistently, Bochy had to set his loyalty aside.
Bochy said Friday he longer will use Casilla as the lone closer and instead will adopt a committee of relievers, a decision that followed meetings with pitching coach Dave Righetti and the front office over the past two days.
