Giants bench takes shape: Aaron Hill remains, Jimmy Rollins in limbo

MESA, Ariz. – The Giants had planned to take the remainder of their bench candidates north after they break camp on Tuesday. But not all of their candidates made the trip to Sloan Park for the club’s final exhibition game of the spring.

Veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins was not on the travel list, although his belongings remained in his locker back at Scottsdale Stadium. Rollins, who can opt out of his minor league contract on Thursday, hit .125 in 40 at-bats this spring.

Another telling sign: infielder Aaron Hill is still with the club, which means the Giants must pay him a $100,000 retention bonus if he is not added to the opening day roster.
