'Genius': SF Giants broadcaster weighs in on Yankees 'torpedo' bats

After the first weekend of Major League Baseball, all the talk is about the “torpedo bats” the New York Yankees introduced — and you can count San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow as a big fan of them.

As many stories from the weekend have now broken down, an MIT physics professor-turned-Yankees analytics department member was studying what to do about one specific player, shortstop Anthony Volpe, who made contact more often lower down the bat from the barrel. The solution, it seems, was rather simple in theory: just move the barrel lower to where the player’s swing actually hits the ball.
