From MVP to mortuary services, strange turns athletes take when the game is over

Andre Dawson had a stellar 21-year baseball career. He was Rookie of the Year in 1977. He was Most Valuable Player in 1987. He became the second player in major league history to hit 400 home runs and steal 300 bases. In 2010 he was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. According to Baseball-Reference.com, Dawson earned at least $27 million along the way.

He did it all on a couple of lousy knees, by the way. One day, after Dawson had tormented the Giants at Candlestick Park, he repaired to the training room, where he sat on a table for a very long time, his knees encased in ice.
