Former Giants' infielder Freddy Sanchez retires
| Freddy Sanchez, who helped San Francisco win the first of three World Series titles in 2010, has formally retired. The one-time batting champion had informally retired, having not played in the big leagues since 2011, although he tried a comeback in the Giants' minor league season in 2012. The 38-year-old second baseman had hoped to make a comeback as recently as 2015, but the residue from shoulder and back injuries made that impossible, and he formalized that with a statement that came through is agents, Sosnick, Cobbe & Karon. Sanchez, then with the Pirates, beat out Miguel Cabrera, then with the Marlins, for the National League batting title on the last day of the 2006 season, finishing at . |
