For another May hot streak, Giants’ Crawford can’t rely on same advice from Sandoval

CINCINNATI — On May 1, 2018, Brandon Crawford was the Giants’ biggest offensive liability, as the shortstop was hitting .189 with a paltry .537 on-base plus slugging percentage.

On May 1, 2019, Crawford’s batting average was slightly higher than it was a year ago at .198, but his OPS was a club-worst .495.

Crawford’s slow offensive start gave the Giants significant cause for concern a year ago, but after a dismal April, the left-handed hitter rebounded with two of the best months of his pro career. Crawford hit .331 with a .930 OPS from May 1 through the All-Star break and started for the National League in the Midsummer Classic.
