Ex-Giants closer Nen on Melancon’s rehab: ‘It took me almost the All-Star break’ to feel pain-free

Professional sports fallacy No. 337: Just because a new season is about to start, it doesn’t mean your injury from last year is all better.

Former Giants closer Robb Nen has the scars that give him authority on this subject. He had two surgeries on his throwing arm, the second which of effectively ended his career. On Wednesday night Nen visited with KNBR’s Drew Hoffar and Kevin Frandsen to apply his experience to what current Giants closer Mark Melancon might be feeling.

Melancon, who had a disappointing 2017 season (11 saves, 4.50 ERA) after being signed by the Giants as a free agent, had surgery last September on his right forearm.
