Cespedes, Mets wreck Giants with a 12-run third inning

NEW YORK – On a nondescript Tuesday night last June, Chris Heston celebrated the baseball moment of his life when he pitched a series opener at Citi Field and the New York Mets couldn’t muster a single hit.

How much the world has changed in 11 months. As the Giants began a series at Citi Field Friday night, Heston was starting a game for Triple-A Sacramento at Salt Lake City. And the Mets, now the defending National League champions, served notice that they will be an obstacle to the Giants in this even year.

There is no other way to interpret the Mets’ 12-run third inning, a rip job that rendered the rest of the Giants’ 13-1 loss as riveting as a minor league scrimmage.
