Buster Posey to miss All-Star Game to heal injury

SAN FRANCISCO–Giants catcher Buster Posey was selected to his sixth All-Star Game, but he won’t be traveling to Washington, D.C.

Instead, Posey will stay at home and receive a cortisone shot in his right hip to heal a nagging injury that he’s dealt with for much of the season.

Posey was voted onto the National League All-Star team as a reserve by fellow players, but he’ll skip the festivities and attempt to get healthy in time for the start of the second half of the season.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the Giants have discussed the possibility of Posey receiving a cortisone injection for the last month and were hoping he would be healthy enough to play regularly through the first half of the season before he needed more time off.
