A misguided bunt attempt by San Francisco Giants outfielder Yermín Mercedes was so dreadful it elicited confused laughter from coach Gabe Kapler — but Mercedes ended up getting the last laugh.
In the fourth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, Mercedes went to lay down a bunt with runners on first and third. He appeared to change his mind too late, though, and ended up half-hitting, half-bunting the ball into the air. As the pitch glanced off Mercedes' bat and into the stands behind him, both TV announcers and Kapler laughed at the failed attempt.
