SAN FRANCISCO — As his career winds down, some fans will remember Bruce Bochy for being stuck in his ways.
Others see Bochy as a manager who was successful in large part due to his desire to embrace new ideas.
In the last week of his tenure in San Francisco, one of Bochy’s players convinced him there’s one last suggestion he consider.
Shortstop Brandon Crawford has never hit leadoff in his nine-year major league career, but thanks to a conversation with Bochy, that will change on Wednesday.
“He just said, ‘Hey, I’ve been getting on base a lot with the walks in the second half,’ so I’m going to let him lead off today,” Bochy said.
