After a 41-year wait, Rennie Stennett looks forward to congratulating fellow 7-hit wonder Brandon Crawford

MIAMI – For more than four decades, Rennie Stennett watched and waited and scanned box scores.

He assumed it would happen sooner or later: He’d wake up one day to the news that finally, for the first time since his magical day at Wrigley Field in 1975, a major league player would collect seven hits in a game.

It happened Monday night at Marlins Park, when Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford went 7 for 8 with five singles, a double and a triple in an 8-7, 14-inning victory.

And although Stennett didn’t realize it at the time, he was watching it unfold.
