The SF Giants were sellers at the trade deadline, but if they were buyers they would have been a perfect fit for both starting pitcher Joe Ryan and outfielder Steven Kwan. They can still make a run at both players in the offseason.
It came as a bit of a surprise that neither Ryan nor Kwan was dealt at the deadline. Both the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians were in a position where they could sell, but both clubs opted to keep Ryan and Kwan.

It was rumored that a few NL West rivals were planning to make a run at Kwan and apparently the Boston Red Sox made a strong offer for Ryan.
