San Francisco Giants Agree To Deal With Johnny Cueto

The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a six-year deal with ace Johnny Cueto, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

San Francisco reportedly offered Cueto a deal that was "easily" above the six-year, $120 million offer Cueto turned down from the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this offseason.

Both the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers were also pursuing Cueto, but didn't want to offer Cueto anything near the $120 million deal he rejected.

The Giants signed Cueto after missing out on fellow free agent ace Zack Greinke, who signed with Arizona. San Francisco also signed pitcher Jeff Samardzija to a five-year, $90 million deal.

Cueto won the World Series after being traded from the Cincinnati Reds to the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline. He went 11-13 with a 3.44 ERA last season, but went 2-1 in the postseason, including a complete game two-hitter in the World Series and another two-hitter in a decisive Game 5 against the Houston Astros in the ALDS.
