SF Giants News: Pablo Sandoval seeking $100 million contract, Giants not receptive

In SF Giants news today, San Francisco Giants slugger Pablo Sandoval is seeking a $100 million plus contract from the Giants, and may serve to test the team's cost-effective ways very soon.

Per Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, "some folks were surprised when the San Francisco Giants, a team that's unmatched in its resolve and record for keeping its best players, announced that contract talks were being tabled with star third baseman Pablo Sandoval, the beloved Panda. Those folks were maybe even a bit shocked, too, when longtime general manager Brian Sabean suggested things weren't going especially well."

The reason for the problems stems from the dissonance between Sandoval's asking price of five years, $100 million and the SF Giants' previously reported offer in the neighborhood of three years and $40 million this spring.

"They know what they have, I'm sure," Sandoval's agent Gustavo Vazquez stated. "It wasn't the offer we were expecting."

Thus, the SF Giants and their beloved third baseman are at an impasse currently. If Sandoval's slow start continues, do not expect things to get any easier as the summer wears on.
