Soberon Shines as Dons Fall to Gonzaga in Series Finale

pitched seven stellar innings as the University of San Francisco baseball team (17-19, 1-8 WCC) narrowly fell to Gonzaga (14-18, 10-2 WCC) 3-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

  • Gonzaga grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jace Phelan poked a two-out bases-loaded single to left field, scoring Donovan Ratfield. During the play, a pin-point throw from Logan Azem in left field cut down Tommy Eisenstat at the plate to prevent a second run from scoring.
  • Soberon, earning his team-leading ninth start of the season, settled down and followed with six scoreless innings for the Dons, allowing just five baserunners.
