The San Francisco 49ers were in a bit of a bind this offseason, as they had several players who wanted new contracts set to hit the open market. They also needed to pay quarterback Brock Purdy, so not everyone made the cut in San Francisco.
Among the most painful departures were defenders Dre Greenlaw, Charvarius Ward, Javon Hargrave and Talanoa Hufanga. Ward landed with the Indianapolis Colts, Hargrave with the Minnesota Vikings, and both Greenlaw and Hufanga joined forces with the Denver Broncos.
None of these players produced as much in 2024 as they did in 2023, so parting ways with them was obvious, in a sense.
