On Monday, rookie 49ers kicker Chase McLaughlin went from San Francisco hero to goat in the course of a few minutes.
After forcing overtime in the San Francisco-Seattle Monday Night Football affair with six seconds to go in regulation a week after being out of a job, McLaughlin again had a shot to be the hero in overtime lining up for a game-winner with 2:28 to go in the extra frame.
Instead, McLaughlin booted a shank for the ages, missing the uprights so wide left it ended up in the tunnel in the corner of the stadium, narrowly missing a huddle of people at the mouth of the tunnel, according to a video posted by NBC Sports’ Jennifer Lee Chan.
