The 49ers have 17 impending free agents this offseason. Here's the latest on all of them

Arik Armstead: Unrestricted

The breakout star played the 2019 season on his fifth-year option, and recorded a career-high 10 sacks. General manager John Lynch has stated that the team wants to make Armstead a 49er "for a long time," but the finances will be tricky. Defensive end Dee Ford is on a five-year, $85 million contract, and DeForest Buckner, who has had more consistent career production than Armstead, also needs a long-term contract extension soon. Using the one-year franchise tag on Armstead may not be viable since that's estimated to cost $18 million for defensive ends, and the 49ers are projected to have just $14 million in salary cap space before any possible cuts.
