Shanahan: 49ers plan to do ‘something together’ during national anthem

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said he expects his team to do “something together” during the national anthem on Sunday before their game against the Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium.

It will mark the 49ers’ first game since President Donald Trump said players who protest during the national anthem should be “fired” and referred to a player who did so as a “son of a bitch” during a political rally in Alabama on Friday.

“I was pretty bothered by it,” Shanahan said of Trump’s comments. “I think the same way most people were. I’ve got a lot of regard for that position.
