Anthony Becker, a Santa Clara councilmember and failed 49ers-backed mayoral candidate, is accused of lying about whether he leaked a grand jury report that criticized his and other councilmembers' relationship with the NFL team, according to multiple reports.
The Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office has indicted Becker on perjury charges for allegedly lying about the leak under oath. He is also charged with a misdemeanor of failing to perform his duties as a public officer, for allegedly leaking the confidential document to Rahul Chandhok, the 49ers’ chief lobbyist at the time and former team spokesman, as well as to the Silicon Valley Voice.
