Entering the 2016 season, second-year pro running back Mike Davis was likely on the outside and looking in on the San Francisco 49ers roster bubble.

Davis, whom the Niners selected in Round 4 (No. 126 overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft, couldn’t have had much poorer a start to his pro career. Set back by injuries and limited by a problematic 49ers offensive line last year, Davis was limited to just 58 yards on 33 carries — a paltry average of 1.7 yards per attempt.
While Davis’ rookie season didn’t get off to a hot start, the Niners’ offseason actions pointed to the former South Carolina tailback being a forgotten commodity in 2016.
