Head coach Kyle Shanahan already had an established center, Daniel Kilgore, yet the team inked former New York Giants center Weston Richburg to a lucrative free-agent deal. Kilgore was then traded to the Miami Dolphins. Then during the NFL Draft, the Niners selected offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey with their first pick, which was followed by jettisoning offensive tackle Trent Brown to the New England Patriots.
