The 49ers are about to do some serious wide receiver shopping.
That became clear Monday when it was reported they will release wide receiver Torrey Smith, 28, one of two wideouts on their roster with more than 73 career catches who was signed for 2017.
The news was reported by former NFL wideout Steve Smith, a former teammate of Torrey Smith, who has been working for NFL Network this offseason.
Said Torrey Smith, via Twitter: “Don’t be surprised when I’m back on track next year.”
The news wasn’t a complete surprise given Smith’s lack of production since signing a five-year, $40 million deal in 2015.
