SANTA CLARA — The 49ers looked to sign a veteran safety on Tuesday, and although it was not Eric Reid, it also proved not to be J.J. Wilcox.
Wilcox arrived at 49ers headquarters only to back out of a one-year deal, opting instead to go sign with the New York Jets, ESPN reported. “He got stage fright,” a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 49ers did not immediately comment on the potential signing.
Wilcox played his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before last year’s stint on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
