Defensively speaking, the San Francisco 49ers suffered a lot of shortcomings during 2018 and at all three levels.
Niners general manager John Lynch elected to focus his retooling efforts up front, hoping a number of moves would have a nice trickle-down effect on the rest of the defense. Two of these, the trade for former Kansas City Chiefs EDGE Dee Ford and the Round 1 NFL Draft selection of Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa, highlight what San Francisco is trying to do with its pass rush this season.
