The event was the first halftime show produced by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation since the company made a deal with the NFL to curate musical acts for the league’s events. The selection of Lopez and Shakira was intended to reflect the hispanic culture of the Super Bowl host city of Miami.
The show included over 130 dancers and a team of over 600 production assistants.
