The Oregon Ducks wrapped up an ugly 2016 season on Saturday, losing 34-24 to Oregon State in the annual Civil War game. Oregon finished the season 4-8, marking their first losing season since 2004. It is no surprise then that USA Today is reporting that Oregon is expected to fire head coach Mark Helfrich.
The firing has not happened yet, in part because Helfrich has an $11.6 million buyout. USA Today reported that there was hope Helfrich could salvage something from the season after Oregon upset Utah, but a loss to Oregon State a week later might have been the proverbial nail in the coffin.
