Nick Mullens recaps mistake that ended 49ers’ hopes against Bears

With 1:52 remaining in the fourth quarter, the game was still within reach for the San Francisco 49ers.

Trailing the Chicago Bears 14-9, the 49ers’ defense had just forced a turnover when rookie cornerback Tarvarius Moore punched the ball out of the hands of receiver Allen Robinson. Fellow cornerback Greg Mabin recovered the fumble to give the 49ers a final chance at victory.

Shanahan’s offense, led by quarterback Nick Mullens, took over on their own 24-yard line. Fast forward six plays and 31 yards later and you'd find Mullens, standing in the open field, clutching his facemask in disbelief as his fourth-down pass sailed hopelessly out of bounds to extinguish any hope of a win for San Francisco.
