Thanks to the persistence of San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle, “National Tight Ends Day” has become a certifiable thing in the NFL. But NBC decided to create a holiday for running backs to try and add some extra sizzle to the 49ers-Falcons matchup.
The Sunday Night Football broadcast heavily promoted the star-studded running backs for each team — Falcons' Bijan Robinson and 49ers' Christian McCaffrey — all throughout the night. The broadcast told the story about Robinson and McCaffrey training together in the offseason several times, using their friendship to spotlight two of the league’s top playmakers.
