Despite entire news cycles devoted to how badly the San Francisco 49ers wanted to get a contract extension done quickly for quarterback Brock Purdy, there’s been essentially no news about a new deal for weeks.
That changed — barely — on Monday when the Athletic’s Mike Silver reported the 49ers had made “some progress” toward a big extension. Silver said the deal will “likely pay him more than $50 million a year” but added that Tuesday would be a big indicator of how close a deal was.
Why Tuesday? Well, that was the first day of the team’s offseason workouts, which Purdy (audible gasp) showed up for.
