Maybe the San Francisco 49ers‘ battle for the backup quarterback spot won’t result in the loser finding his way off the roster by Week 1 of the regular season.
At least that appears to be the message head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters following the Niners’ 27-17 preseason win in Week 3 over the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night.
Shanahan was prompted by the sudden news Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was retiring from the NFL — news of which was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter during San Francisco’s exhibition bout.
