Injury prompts 49ers to make move at safety

HOUSTON — Undrafted rookie Terrell Williams, who had a shot at making the 49ers as a reserve safety, went on injured reserve Friday because of a knee injury.

Replacing him on the roster, for now, is Dexter McCoil, who played eight games last season for the 49ers.

Williams got hurt in Thursday’s joint practice against the Houston Texans, reportedly slipping on a concrete walkway. The 49ers have not divulged exactly what he injured.

Williams, a University of Houston product, saw a lot of action in offseason workouts and was battling Chanceller James to back up Jaquiski Tartt.
