‘I’ll never take a knee’: 49ers safety Antone Exum explores new form of activism through rap

San Francisco 49ers safety and aspiring rapper Antone Exum recently released a new single about police brutality titled “Officer Kaepernick,” but wants to make one thing clear: It’s his own message.

“I don’t want to be associated with anyone else,” Exum told SFGate. “I know I named the song after Colin Kaepernick, which was just a clever creative choice. I have my own views about police brutality, criminal justice reform, sentencing reform, other things.”

Like Kaepernick, Exum believes police brutality and racial inequities in the American justice system are serious problems that need solving. But Exum is determined to take a more “unifying” approach to the national discussion.
