From unemployment to riches: Ex-49er Eric Reid signs huge contract

Former 49ers safety Eric Reid, who joined Colin Kaepernick in a collusion grievance against the NFL, has signed a three-year contract extension with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced Monday.

Sports Illustrated reported Reid signed for $22 million plus incentives.

“We always knew he was a solid football player,” head coach Ron Rivera told panthers.com, “and he showed it to us.”

Reid joined Kaepernick during kneeling, silent social justice protests before NFL games in 2016. Kaepernick opted out his 49ers contract in early 2017. Reid’s contract lapsed at the end of the 2017 season. Neither player was invited to an NFL training camp last summer.
