The first player signed by the 49ers’ new regime has become the first player to receive a contract extension.
On Friday, the 49ers signed nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams to a three-year extension through 2020. The 49ers began their offseason overhaul by signing Williams on Feb. 22, 16 days after head coach Kyle Shanahan was hired.
Williams, 26, has assumed the slot corner role previously held by Jimmie Ward, who was moved to free safety in the offseason. In three games, he has 14 tackles and two pass breakups.
Williams is in his first season with the 49ers, but he has a long-standing relationship with secondary coach Jeff Hafley.
