Joe Montana is pretty much a consensus top 3 quarterback of all-time.
But for former quarterback and NFL Network analyst David Carr, the 49ers great isn’t even in his Top 10.
During a Friday appearance on “NFL Total Access,” Carr said that he doesn’t believe that Montana is one of the 10 best quarterbacks of the Super Bowl era, because his success can purely be attributed to head coach Bill Walsh.
“I’ve been in the pocket, I understand,” Carr said. “Bill Walsh is a genius, Bill Walsh is a genius, and Joe Montana arrived at precisely the right time just like the white wizard Gandalf; he arrives precisely when he intends to.
